AT&T and Nokia Unveils Nokia Mural Clamshell

Nokia and AT&T has announced the Nokia Mural, a clamshell 3G phone with HSDPA connection supported. The Mural will be available from September 6, at a price tag of USD 49.99 with a two-year service agreement and USD 50 mail in rebate.

With a 2.2’’ QVGA screen, a 2-megapixel camera and up to 16 GB of expandable memory, Nokia Mural has the capacity for storing even the heftiest entertainment loads for your leisure time. Sleek external music keys mean you don’t need to open the device to enjoy your tunes.

Palm Centro finally announced by AT&T

As if you didn’t know already. Well, the Centro is officially on AT&T and it’s going for $99 with a 2 year service agreement. Want the hard specs? Quad-band GSM/EDGE, 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, QWERTY keyboard, microsD slot, and support for AT&T’s push-to-talk app. No word on BlackBerry Connect, but we’re guessing the average businessman won’t be dropping any coins on the Centro, so it doesn’t really matter now does it.

AT&T Shows Samsung BlackJack II

At the CTIA show in San Francisco this morning, the wraps came off the rumored follow-up to Samsung's popular smartphone. The Samsung BlackJack II was shown at a keynote by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. The phone is slightly slimmer than before, and includes features like a 2.4-inch 320 by 240 pixel screen, a 2-megapixel camera, tri-band 3G UMTS/HSDPA and quad-band EDGE/GPRS wireless connectivity, and built-in GPS.

The phone runs Windows Mobile 6 (the previous version had Windows Mobile 5); AT&T says the device will be among the first to support Microsoft's System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008, introduced today by Ballmer. The Device Manager provides companies with a means for managing and securing Windows Mobile devices, and for using devices over a Mobile Virtual Private Network.

The BlackJack II will ship by end of year and will cost $150 with a two-year contract (and a mail-in rebate). The phone comes in two colores: "red wine" and piano black.

AT&T Tilts phone lineup with Windows Mobile handset

San Antonio (TX) - AT&T today announced details about the Tilt, the first phone to include both Windows Mobile and Blackberry Connect.

The official successor to AT&T's 8525 phone, the Tilt has a full feature set including built-in GPS, Wi-Fi, complete 3G capability, and a three megapixel digital camera.
It also packs in a 2.8-inch screen and a slide-out Qwerty keyboard. The screen gives the phone its namesake, as it tilts up and down to offer multiple viewing angles.
The phone contains Telenav GPS technology, which includes travel guides, traffic alerts, and address sharing, a new feature for users to easily send their location to one of their contacts.
The three megapixel camera is the most powerful currently offered on AT&T handsets. Most notable, though, is the vast selection of communication features.
The phone comes pre-packaged with Blackberry Connect, AT&T's own ExpressMail platform, and the full version of Windows Mobile 6. AT&T says it is the phone to include both Blackberry and Windows Mobile.
It is the latest in a blizzard of new, more feature-packed smartphones since Apple's launch of the iPhone in July. Previously, handset makers had contended that most US customers were not ready for feature-intense phones.
The Tilt will be available beginning tomorrow for around $300 with a service contract.

AT&T Cracks Down On Commercial iPhone Unlocking Groups

It was bound to happen: AT&T is going after the commercial snakes groups trying to profit from the iPhone unlocking. Apparently they can hunt these mercenaries down. You can still 100% unlock with the TurboSIM method but, once again, there is only one way to really blow up the Death Star: Support the iPhone Dev Team to get the FREE software unlock and keep advancing native software development for the iPhone.

Press Release August 25th, 2007

iphoneunlocking.com, a subsidiary of UniquePhones (www.uniquephones.com).
was poised and ready to release remote software unlocking services for the
iphone today at 12 noon EST. The sale of unlocking codes is on hold after the
company received a telephone call from a Menlo Park, California, law firm at
approximately 2:54 a.m. this morning (GMT).

After saying they were phoning on behalf of AT&T, the law firm
presented issues such as copyright infringement and illegal software
dissemination. Uniquephones is taking legal advice to ascertain whether AT&T
was sending a warning shot or directly threatening legal action. The logistics
of different continents as well as it being a weekend factors into how the
situation develops.

Until an assessment is made of the potential of legal action,
Uniquephones is unable to release the unlocking software for sale. The company
spokesperson also said that the company would also be evaluating what to
eventually do with the software should they be legally denied the right to sell
it. A substantial delay caused by any legal action would render the unlocking
software a less valuable commodity as well as creating unforeseen security
issues for the company.

Oh, and keep your eyes open during tomorrow and the weekend because the shit is about to hit the fan. [iPhone Unlocking]

AT&T to launch a 3G HTC Vox soon?

While we could file this under “early stage rumor”, the device in subject is a very interesting one, hence we’re writing about it.
Apparently, AT&T will be launching a 3G version of the HTC
Vox/Libra as HTC Juno in a not-that-distant future.

The new device should sport a quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and a tri-band UMTS/HSDPA radios, 2 MP camera, Qualcomm MSM7200 400 MHz CPU and should run the latest Windows Mobile 6 Standard Edition (non-touchscreen) mobile OS. On the other hand, it’s still unclear whether the HTC Juno will come with the front facing camera and the WiFi, although we crave for the latter. Stay tuned, as we keep you well informed…

Unlocked Apple iPhones working in Hong Kong with non-AT&T SIM cards?

Could this be the first truly unlocked Apple iPhone? We can’t say for sure, but what we do know is that an unlocked iPhone is reported to be available in Hong Kong - and allegedly works with non-AT&T SIM cards on Hong Kong’s HK CSL wireless network. It looks like incoming and outgoing calls are 100% functional, as are the SMS texts and EDGE data connection. What we don’t know is how the iPhone handles Visual VoiceMail (we suspect that Visual Voicemail is a no-go) and the SIM card.

But, like all things new and hip, and unlocked Hong Kong iPhone will cost ya - about $2,000 to be more specific (the unlocking service will run $750, but you will need your own iPhone).

Now, all we have to go on are these pics that could quite easily be fake, so we’re going to wait to see if this really is the first instance of an iPhone “Holy Grail” - a fully unlocked Apple iPhone. For all we know, these guys could be charging $750 to create a SuperSIM or TurboSIM for you.

At&T rolls out Mobile Backup solution

AT&T just announced a new service called AT&T Mobile Backup to allow its subscribers to store, update and access their contact information from the Web. Naturally, the idea is to eliminate the need to spend hours re-entering contacts into a new or replacement phone — or to delete all contacts remotely in the case a phone has been stolen or lost. In addition, the new service allows subscribers to import existing contacts from Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo! and AOL through AT&T Mobile Backup website.

Interested? You’ll need one of the following six Motorola devices - RAZR V3xx, RAZR V3i, RAZR V3r, V365, SLVR L7 or KRZR K1, plus a will to pay $1.99 on top of your monthly bill.

AT&T’s Cingular to offer WWE Wrestling-based Content to Mobile Phones

Cingular Wireless, top U.S. mobile service provider, owned by AT&T Inc,is cutting an exclusive content deal with World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. (WWE) to sell everything from ringtones with famous wrestlers’ voices to graphics and videos, including weekly matches and the annual spring tournament, in a move to attract new customers to its wireless services.
techshout.com

John Burbank, vice president of AT&T wireless marketing said, “WWE fans love action — anytime and anyplace. Now, fans can carry the action with them wherever they go, just in time for Wrestlemania.”
Some World Wrestling videos will be available as part of Cingular’s $19.99 a month media service plan and the company will also sell a premium video package for $4.99 a month featuring highlights from WrestleMania and other shows.
Cingular, which is being rebranded as AT&T, will also sell related ringtones for $2.49 each and graphics for $1.99. San Antonio-based AT&T is one of the largest telecommunications holding companies in the world.
Shane McMahon, WWE’s executive vice president, says they will create must-have content for their fans by offering a basic package of short form videos each month along with other content that will enable customers to personalize their mobile experience with the WWE brand.
The company has kicked-off the service yesterday, on phones with high- speed Web links with video clips and there are new features in store to be added in the following months, said Cingular spokesman Mark Siegel.
He believes quite a few of Cingular’s 61 million users are wrestling fans “that this will do very well.”
However WWE’s 15 million weekly viewers are the ones who will ultimately decide if the phone screen can deliver a clear enough image of favorite super and their shapely female counterparts.
So get ready to watch your favorite hulky-bulky professional wrestlers fighting not only in the ring but also fighting for space on the little mobile phone screens.

Is the Motorola MOTO Q q9 coming to AT&T

theunwired.netThere's not too much to say except that Engadget Mobile received a grainy (looking) Photoshop rendering which shows a Motorola MOTO Q q9 with an AT&T logo on the back. For sure, we have seen live photos of a Motorola MOTO Q q9 with a Vodafone logo before as well (but haven't heard any official announcements yet) so it might be just a Motorola rendering for a AT&T presentation, how such a customized device can look like. Some might think now, that it doesn't makes sense for AT&T to launch another keyboard-styled Windows Mobile Smartphone (the previously mentioned SMT5700) together with the Motorola MOTO Q q9, on the other hand, the SMT5700 seems to support 2.75G (EDGE) only, while the q9 supports UMTS as well as HSDPA so both devices definitely targets two different markets with (I'm sure) different price points.

In addition, Engadget Mobile got the word from its anonymous tipster, that the AT&T version won't be called the Q when it comes to the US' largest GSM network, though whether it retains the "q9" branding remains to be seen.
Time will tell but and therefore, no release date is given yet.
