We already know that a handset like this will appeal to the ladies, but with the word "metro" in its name, you've got to wonder if Sony Ericsson is targeting folks like David Beckham too. Somehow I have a hard time imagining Becks carrying a pink phone.In terms of the features, the Metro Pink Sony Ericsson W580i likely has the exact same list as its not-so-pink counterparts. This means that you get treated to the company's sigature Walkman 2.0 media player, granting you access to all sorts of tunes and vids. Other vitals include an attractive slider form factor and a 2.0 megapixel camera. You also get mood lighting and fitness features.No word on pricing or availability, but without a service provider picking up the pink wonder on our side of the pond, I'm thinking the only way to get your hands on a Metro Pink Sony Ericsson W580i slider phone is through importers and other gray market means.

Sony Ericsson announced today the release through AT&T of a new Walkman phone. The Sony Ericsson W580i is available now. 
The Sony Ericsson W580i is available in an array of colors and sports a slim-slider design. It comes with a “shaking” control which lets one flick the wrist to skip from one song playing to another. It supports a variety of audio formats, including WMA, MP3 and AAC and can offer up to 20 hours of music playback or nine hours of talk time. There are also external volume and skip track keys. Other features of the W580i include fitness functions like a calorie counter, a 2-megapixel digital camera, mood lighting, integrated FM radio and Bluetooth support. The first shipments of the Sony Ericsson W580i were found to be faulty with several thousand devices coming with keypads prone to cracking. According to one Carphone Warehouse salesperson, the W580i’s keys were splitting and the first three phones they’ve sold were all returned.
Naturally, the Swedish-Japanese handset maker reacted promptly and the later W580i shipments have been stopped in transit to ensure they did not go out. Anyone who had a problem with their W580i keypad should contact the manufacturer for a replacement.
I just hope this wasn’t the error caused by the shake feature, as I find that as one of the key selling points of the W580i! And of the W910i, of course…

Orange will have several Sony Ericsson Walkman exclusive colour variants for October, as part of a partnership between the two companies for new music TV show mobileAct Unsigned. Orange said: 'Three new Sony Ericsson Walkman handsets, the W660i, the W910i and the W580i, will be available from Orange in October. We have the W910i exclusively in red and the W580i exclusively in pink, both for a minimum of three months.' Orange also has the pink W200 exclusively from October. MobileAct Unsigned will be on Channel 4's T4 and 4music slots and aims to unearth real music talent. The show will allow users to download tracks from competing bands and vote for the ones they want to progress through the competition. The UK winners will be signed to a record contract with a major record label.The campaign will use content across TV, online and mobile.Orange has sold over two million Sony Ericsson Walkman handsets featuring the Orange full-track music download service, Orange Music Store, in just over 12 months.The Sony Ericsson Walkman handsets are part of Orange's successful Signature Series, which gives customers one-click access to the Orange Music Store.
