Not at CTIA: Nokia unveils 4 phones for the emerging market

At the Growing Together 2008 Conference in South Africa today Nokia released 4 devices. Is that a Prism? For the entry market?! Find out after the jump along with the other 3 devices.

The Nokia 5000 is a 90 Euro device with a 1.3 megapixel camera, 240×320 resolution 65k color 2 inch screen, dual band (one version to be 900/1800, the other 850/1900), 700 mAh battery all in a 11.1 mm thin package scheduled to come out in the second quarter of this year.

The Nokia 2680 Slide will cost 75 Euros when it comes out in the third quarter of this year. It has a VGA camera, again dual band with 2 versions like the Nokia 5000, 128×160 resolution screen, 860 mAh battery and it is a hair under 15 mm thin.



The Nokia 7070 Prism is the cheapest fashion phone I've ever seen out of Nokia coming in at only 50 Euros when it hits stores in the third quarter of this year. You'll get a dual band device, 128×160 resolution screen, 16 mm thin device, but with a ton of style. It looks like a clamshell version of the 7500.


The Nokia 1680 Classic is the 2680 in a monoblock form factor, but it is coming out in Q2.

Nokia 1680 Classic Candybar Cell Phone

The fourth among the phones released by Nokia in the Growing Together 2008 conference along with the Nokia 5000, Nokia 2680 Slide, and Nokia 7070 Prism is Nokia 1680 Classic. This phone is recognized as Nokia's most affordable camera phone as of the moment. It capitalizes on having very basic phone functionalities with the added benefit of a camera despite its low price.

Aside from the VGA camera, it also has video recording capability, and even a one touch access for your photos and videos. Other features include easy access to email and phone sharing functionality. The Nokia 1680 Classic will ship on the second quarter of 2008 with a MSRP of $78-80.

Nokia Brings New Models: 6220 Classic and 6210 Navigator

Now that the Mobile World Congress is underway in Barcelona, the cell phone announcements are coming fast and furious.

Nokia already unleashed a couple of N-series smartphones, but they've hit up the 6000 series as well, offering a candybar and a slider for the mid-range consumers.

On the left is the Nokia 6220 Classic. As you can tell, it adopts that glossy piano black finish that seems to be all the rage with the Finnish phonemaker these days. In terms of features, the Nokia 6220 comes with quad-band GSM, dual-band HSDPA (900/2100), 2.2-inch QVGA display, 120MB internal memory, microSDHC expansion, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (including A2DP), 5 megapixel camera, and aGPS. Look for it in Q3 for about $475.

On the right is the Nokia 6210 Navigator, a device that has been designed to replace the 6110 Navigator released last year. As its name implies, the flagship feature is the integrated AGPS with Maps 2.0 and built-in geotagging. Other features include quad-band GSM, dual-band HSDPA, Bluetooth, 3.2 megapixel cam, secondardy VGA cam, 120MB internal memory, and microSDHC expansion. This slider will go for $440.

Nokia 6500 Classic

There’s no doubt about it - both Nokia 6500 Classic and 6500 Slide are beautiful devices. While the Classic is more polished, the Slide version is more powerful — or at least has a better camera. What follows after the break are two demo video clips, one for each variation of the Nokia 6500. Basically, they just emphasize specs and phones’ beauty — though that’s more than enough for me!

Nokia 6500 Slider and Classic

Nokia has expanded its mid-range portfolio by offering two distinct handset with accent on fine craftsmanship and 3G connectivity. The Nokia 6500 classic and Nokia 6500 slide are unique with their simplistic, yet refined metallic design and rich features.

Despite being gathered under a common 6500-series model line the two handsets are pretty different when it comes to specifications and form factor.

The Nokia 6500 classic features a seamless body case made from anodized aluminum and measures only 9.5 mm in thickness.

With a classic bar form factor, it is based on the S40 user interface and features dual band 3G support (WCDMA 850/2100) and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support.

Focusing mainly on data transfers and streaming content instead on video calls, the Nokia 6500 classic doesn't feature a video calls camera and its main photographic gear is a 2 megapixel camera with a dual LED flash. It also offers a 2" 16M color TFT display with QVGA resolution and 1GB of internal memory. If that is not enough, unfortunately, the handset doesn't have a memory card slot.

The Nokia 6500 is also equipped with a microUSB port to meet all cable connectivity needs such as charging, listening to music and transferring data.

The Nokia 6500 slide comes in the slider form factor (obviously!) and is jam-packed with features. It is again based on the S40 user interface and features dual band 3G support (WCDMA 850/2100) and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support. This photo-centric handset has a video calls camera and is the first Nokia feature phone to be equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera. The camera itself has Carl Zeiss optics, auto focus and a dual LED flash plus video recording in VGA resolution (15fps).

The Nokia 6500 slide also boasts a 2.2" 16M color TFT display with a QVGA resolution and connectivity wise is equipped with a microUSB slot, Bluetooth, and a TV-out jack. The TV-out jack is not only for browsing your pictures on a large screen but also can be used for exciting features such as TV video calls and TV video conference calls. The device is further equipped with a FM radio with RDS and a microSD memory slot with support of up to 4GB memory cards.When it comes to design, the Nokia 6500 slide doesn't fail to impress, too. The body has a brushed stainless steel finish plus some clear hard coating which should prevent scratches and fingerprints.

Both handsets are due to hit the market Q3 this year.
