Nokia at CTIA: N810 WiMAX announced, along with two low-end CDMA phones - Nokia 3606 and Nokia 1606

The wait is (almost) over. Just as we expected, Nokia N810 WiMAX has been announced from the CTIA floor. However, don't expect it to hit the markets till summer, when it will be available in areas where WiMAX connectivity is available. No word whether the original N810 specs are changed or not (aside from WiMAX radio, of course).

In the other news, the Finish giant unveiled two new CDMA devices for the North America - Nokia 3606 and Nokia 1606. The first, more powerful one boasts a 1.3 megapixel camera with LED flash, stereo Bluetooth support, microSD slot. On the other hand, the 1606 model is the basic feature phone that neatly doubles as a flashlight, which will work even if the device is powered off. Both Nokia 3606 and Nokia 1606 are expected to be available in Q3 2008. No carrier partners have been announced.

Sprint keeps riding the data-wave with CDMA/EVDO variant of HTC Shift

Sprint is really looking to expand its data-side services, and it makes sense, given their struggles in the traditional voice-call market. Sprint is apparently going to pickup the CDMA/EVDO version of the HTC Shift. We knew that the HTC Shift was a-comin' in GSMCDMA flavors (thanks, FCC) , and it seems that Sprint will have the honor of offering this hybrid mobile device to US customers. The 7-inch touchscreen display, QWERTY keyboard, 800 Mhz processor, 1GB RAM, a 40GB hard drive, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 that we see in the GSM HTC Shift remain unchanged.

Of course, we'll be seeing Sprint offer a CDMA/EVDO radio in their own version of the HTC Shift - as the HTC HTCX9000 Shift CDMA.

BlackBerry Curve 8330 CDMA has GPS

Verizon Wireless customer who’ve been waiting anxiously for the CDMA version of the BlackBerry Curve can breathe a sigh of relief: BBGeeks have photos of the 8330 that show it is physically almost identical to the 8310 GSM version currently on sale, keeping the same lauded QWERTY keyboard.

The photo below also confirms that the CDMA Curve will have GPS functionality, although it is unclear as to what use different carriers might make of that. Speculation is that an announcement regarding the handset may come next month.
