LG First Android Smartphone GW620 Announced

LG has just announced its first Android-powered smartphones, the LG GW620. While details specs is still unknown except a 3-inch full touchscreen and slide out QWERTY keyboard, the LG GW620 will also support the social networking sites and to be available in the fourth quarter of this year in select European markets.

“The LG-GW620 will appeal to first-time smartphone customers by offering a new and different kind of user experience,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Our objective is to provide a wide selection of smartphones to satisfy the diverse preferences of today’s consumers. This Android phone is just one of many smartphone models we plan to introduce worldwide in the years ahead.”

In addition to the Android model, LG announced in early September that it will be introducing a minimum of 13 new smartphones over the next 16 months that utilize Microsoft’s Windows Mobile. The newest release, version 6.5, was announced just last week.

Samsung and LG launch solar-powered cellphones!

Samsung and LG seem all set to unveil two solar-powered handsets next week. Samsung takes the initiative in launching Blue-Earth, powered by solar panels, placed on the back of the phone. Made from recycled plastic, this phone runs on energy-efficient Eco-Mode and flaunts an en-suite pedometer, dubbed Eco-Walk.

LG too has announced a new solar-powered phone, that’s a probable version of KF750 Secret. This handset will allow you to talk for 3 minutes for every 10 minutes of solar charge time. It will also be a bio-plastic-made cellphone.

No words on suggested pricing and availability as yet. So, stay tuned!

LG unveils KS660 : Touch Screen, Dual Sim Phone

LG rolls over its dual-SIM KS660 phone with advanced features like a 3 inch touchscreen WQVGA display, a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus and video recording, 50MB of memory space upgradeable via microSDHC, tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, and an accelerometer to play with. Well, I am more than impressed. They’ve done a fabulous job on the form factor. So, it’s like having class and attributes in unison with marvelous exteriors. China and CIS markets may expect its launch in February 2009 whilst others need to be patient.

LG Prada II fashionista phone

The lately released LG KF900 (aka LG Prada II)is meant for the style conscious crowd. The phone touts LG’s latest active flash UI technology and haptic feedback and comes loaded with PRADA ringtones, wallpapers and video clips, including 2008 Fall/Winter ‘lookbook’ and PRADA animation films. LG’s fully loaded GD910 wrist phone

Yeah, the Dick Tracy’s wrist-phone is now coming to a store near you! LG’s new wrist phone, GD910, comes up with a 1.43 inches touchscreen LCD, 3G data, MP3, TTS (Text to Speech), front-facing camera, voice dialing with speech recognition, integral Bluetooth and download speed of up to 7.2 mbps on HSDPA.

LG should be showing this off at CES in Las Vegas next month. The Korean phone maker plans to release it in Japan and Europe first, hopefully North America would be one of the next terms.

LG KC780 8-megapixel slider photo leaks

All is well in the land of 8 megapixels today. Or, at least, it would seem that way. After just talking about the Samsung Pixon, which was announced today, this image of the LG KC780 crossed my screen. Yes, this one has 8-megapixels, too.

Photographers can rejoice, because there will soon be many more camera phone options on the market that give you a chance to take a decent shot when out and about. The LG KC780 is dubbed “the slimmest 8MP to date” by LG and that very well may be true. However, Samsung claims something similar about their Pixon device calling it “the slimmest full-touch 8MP.”

In the end, both LG and Samsung could be right! However, we won’t know for certain until we get our hands on the full specs for KC780. We do know that it will likely offer quad-band GSM support and limited touchscreen features. 30fps video recording is also expected.

LG Lotus is stylish and functional

Okay, so the LG Lotus might come off as a bit pretentious but it seems to have some legitimate function under its boxy exterior. This phone is squared off, wide and slim, but it fits in the hand comfortably and actually looks pretty cool to boot.

This flip phone was designed by Christian Siriano and will be debuted at the New York Fashion Week. However, consumers won’t be able to get their hands on the device until October when Sprint releases the Lotus to the public in both purple and black.

An XPERIA X1 inspired home screen may be included. However, a few specs we know for sure include a 2 megapixel camera, video recording, Rev. A Internet, a 12 GB storage capacity by means of microSD and more. Not too shabby, really. Especially for a phone that’s trying to play itself off as the be all and end all of style.

LG Viewty cell phone records DivX video

Verizon officially launching LG VX9100 enV2 tomorrow

Sure, there are scattered reports of Verizon already offering the update to LG's popular LG VX9900 enV, but the handset hasn't yet gone officially official. For those of you eagerly awaiting Verizon's launch of the updated enV handset - the LG VX9100 enV2 - you're wait is almost over. The sleek and diminutive text-messaging powerhouse is slated to hit the No. 2 US carrier's CDMA airwaves tomorrow.

The new LG enV2 will come to market with a 2 megapixel camera, stereo speakers, and of course a QWERTY keyboard in tow. And, with Bluetooth 2.0 and a microSD card slot, the LG enV2 should prove to be a competent successor to the original LG enV.

For those too lazy to actually read their own text messages, the LG enV2 features a text-to-speech capability that will read your SMS text messages to you. As expected, the LG VX9100 enV2 will be offered in your choice of Maroon or Black. You'll have to pony up $129.99 and sign a 2-year contract, but if you've been waiting for this handset to finally drop, you probably already have the cash in hand.

LG Viewty photography competition promises $10k National Geographic prize

Fancy yourself as something of a photographer? LG are offering a $10,000 prize, together with a number of Viewty handsets, to highlight the 5-megapixel cameraphone’s imaging pretensions.

Called Viewtyful World, entrants can submit their images in three categories - Night View, Retouch and Moments - which are judged first by online voting and then by a pro photographer from National Geographic. The eventual winner will have their image featured in an LG advert in National Geographic itself, as well as scooping that cash prize.

The competition opened for entries last Thursday, and will run until June 11th. Every week, three Viewty handsets will be given away to the three people with the most votes; those three will be passed on to the pro-photographer who will choose one to go on to the final round. After eight weeks, the eight final contestants will be judged by the magazine.

LG have already sold one million of the Viewty in the four months it has been available in Europe. The company recently developed a cheaper version of the handset, the KE990, which is dualband GSM rather than 3G HSDPA, for the American market.

LG Glimmer for Alltel confirmed launching in 12 days

LG Korea have announced their Glimmer cellphone for Alltel, fliers for which showed up last month, and while the handset - also known as the LG-AX830 - is yet to show up on the carrier’s site, the press release suggests availability within twelve days. Resembling the LG Shine, the Glimmer is an EV-DO slider with 2.8-inch touchscreen, 2-megapixel camera and Bluetooth.

The handset can accept up to 4GB microSD cards, has speaker-independent voice control, is compatible with Alltel’s Access TV and Navigation subscription services and features the A2DP stereo Bluetooth profile for wireless headphones. The Glimmer’s media player can cope with MP3, WMA, AAC and AAC+ audio files, playlists, and it shows up as a mass storage device when hooked up to your PC via USB

The key selling point of the LG-SH240 is the silicon texture on the keypad which is said to mimic the feel of real human skin. Other than that this 2 megapixel, video calling enabled, device is rather plain and ordinary by Korean standards, but hey, if you're lonely Saturday night … I'm not going to go there.

LG KF510 officially launched

We've already posted about LG's stylish KF510 handset, including the video of its UI. Now it's officially announced and ready to conquer the markets of Europe, Asia, Latin America, Middle East and Oceania starting from the end of March.

LG's KT610 S60 smartphone with GPS: sounds good, looks like something

While Sony Ericsson has the tongues wagging over at the Mobile World Congress, LG has quietly loosed its LG-KT610 without any photos. We know it's a 2.4-inch QVGA flip with QWERTY based on Symbian v9.2 and S60 3rd edition feature pack 1.



That's a damn good start before adding 3.6Mbps HSDPA and GPS navigation. As to the looks it's said to be "sleek" and "uniquely designed." Thanks LG, but that isn't quit enough information to form a mental picture now is it? We'll slap in some pics as soon as they roll in.

Worst phones of 2007

We don't believe in name-calling but these were disappointments. Surely.

Nokia 6300

Nokia couldn't stop bragging about the slimness and they weren’t wrong. The 6300 is as slim as it can get. While it scores on design, it’s a big thumbs down performance-wise. The biggest letdown is its battery, which considering it’s from the Nokia umbrella (renowned for its long battery life) makes it an even bigger disappointment. Also, the multimedia is nothing worth mentioning – an un-engaging music player and a not so sharp two-megapixel camera.

Nokia Prism

This was touted as the competitor of the LG Shine. Not even close – which is why this phone finds its way into this list. The half-hearted glossy look, plasticky keys that completely take away from the criss-cross design, and its clashy dirty pink and blue piping running along the side of the phone, make it the complete opposite of a good-looking phone.

i-mate JAQ3

The JAQ3, no doubt, offers a number of improvements over its predecessors but is not up to the standards of what is expected from a Windows Mobile smartphone. Firstly, the call quality is quite poor. Secondly, the mobile applications are a sluggish access. Video playback is not even worth the mention and it does not offer 3G. All in all, not worth spending money on.

Motorola KRZR K1

This was supposed to be an upgraded RAZR. However, it didn't quite match up. Firstly, it didn't sport the Razr's oomphy slimness. In comparison to the RAZR, the KRZR K1 is chubby and taller. The only improvement this one had is that it is not as wide as the RAZR. Feature-wise, it wasn’t too bad, but it didn’t offer anything spectacular either. So while this may not be the worst, it loses extra points for not living up to the expectations.

LG KG920

Surprised to see this phone in the list? Surely, this phone offers an excellent camera but as a mobile phone, it’s far from the best. Firstly, the phone sports a distinct digicam look and while the swivel camera/keypad is uber-cool, the bad key placements and the bulky look and feel combined with a not so engaging user interface, makes this feature-packed camera phone a downer.
